On the menu

So here's what we had over Thanksgiving at the Creekmore home in Florida:
Wednesday night

  • Beef stroganoff
  • Rice
  • Homemade applesauce
  • Ambrosia
  • Green bean casserole (made vastly better by Publix green stopping at Destin Commons to get some on the way home, since I live more than 30 minutes from all Nashville-area Publix stores)
  • Chocolate cake

Thanksgiving dinner
  • Smoked turkey (My dad has been doing this for years, but this was his best ever.)
  • *Golden Baked Potatoes
  • Cream-style corn
  • Cornbread dressing
  • Rolls (These were Sister Schubert's because I forgot to make the homemade ones the night before. For years this has been my job and I totally forgot. I apologize to all.)
  • Ambrosia (My poor mother has been making this both with and without coconut for years due to some -- ahem -- picky eaters in our family.)
  • Homemade cranberry sauce
  • Canned cranberry sauce, for the '70s purists
  • Chocolate chess pie
  • Mincemeat pie
  • Pecan pie

Since then, we've mostly been eating leftovers (mincemeat pie, chocolate chess pie and potatoes make a lovely breakfast), of which there are plenty, except that last night my sister made this delicious balsamic chicken and roasted vegetable meal for us all. It was delicious and -- get this -- as opposed to all Thanksgiving tradition -- actually good for you.
